Redemption: Thomas Jefferson University Sculpture

"Redemption" is a public art installation located in Fair Meadow Park in Huntington, New York. Designed by a team from Thomas Jefferson University’s College of Architecture and the Built Environment, the piece celebrates Black history and honors influential figures such as Jupiter Hammon, John Coltrane, and Booker T. Washington. The installation features three large laser-cut steel panels forming a spatial enclosure, etched with quotes from Black leaders connected to the Huntington community.

Working with MS Signs Inc. under the guidance of my supervisor, Andrew Bullock, I contributed to the project's facilitation and technical design process. My responsibilities included developing a detailed 3D model mockup for installation, creating production files, and assisting in calculating precise measurements and angles to ensure both fabrication feasibility and structural integrity. Since each panel weighed upwards of 400 pounds, we worked with an engineer to carefully plan how the structure would be safely built and installed. Another key project objective was verifying that the waterjet cut letters could be accurately produced at the specified type sizes, which required thorough screening to maintain both quality and durability.
